Description

Nuapatna Ikkat Khandua Cotton Saree – Black, Maroon & Mustard

A thoughtfully composed Khandua Cotton Saree that celebrates the artistry of Odisha's Bandha tradition through layered design and intricate storytelling. The body is divided into three distinct horizontal bands, each carrying a unique visual identity while coming together in perfect harmony.

The saree begins with a black Pasapali border, followed by a maroon band featuring a Nabakothi-inspired grid enclosing delicate floral and Kalash motifs. A broad muted mustard band with oversized Pasapali patterns forms the heart of the composition, before giving way to another maroon section where the grids now house graceful flowers and butterfly motifs.

Completing the weave is a traditional Nuapatna Bandha palla in black, beautifully adorned with the iconic Pasapali pattern. The subtle, earthy colour palette is achieved by blending red and mustard yarns with black weft, creating a sophisticated muted effect that is characteristic of fine handwoven ikkat.

A distinctive Odisha handloom that reflects exceptional planning, precision, and craftsmanship—created for those who appreciate design beyond the ordinary.

About Khandua Sarees – Woven Stories from Odisha

Khandua sarees hold a place of pride in Odisha’s handloom tradition, admired for their artistry and sanctity. Traditionally offered to Lord Jagannath in Puri, they embody devotion, culture, and centuries-old weaving mastery.

Woven through the Bandha Kala (Ikkat tie & dye) technique, motifs are dyed into yarns before weaving, ensuring clarity and precision. Khandua sarees are available in silk and cotton. While silk Khanduas are known for ceremonial elegance, the cotton versions bring breathable comfort with timeless artistry, making them suitable for both everyday and special occasions.

To own a Khandua saree is to embrace a living tradition—woven devotion, heritage storytelling, and unmatched craftsmanship carried forward since the 12th century.
