Description

Utkala Laxmi 4-Ply Nuapatna Ikkat Silk Saree

A beautiful interpretation of an iconic Sambalpuri design, this 4-ply Nuapatna Ikkat Silk Saree brings the Utkala Laxmi motif into a softer, more feminine palette and weave language.

The saree has a deep black base with a subtle hint of green that reveals itself beautifully up close. Across the body, vibrant green, red and yellow come together within the characteristic grids and structured composition of Utkala Laxmi. Yet unlike its Sambalpuri double-Ikkat counterpart, the colours and finer execution give this version a gentler, more graceful character.

The palla is the true highlight—a magnificent Nuapatna composition featuring a royal elephant amidst a richly detailed jungle. From the decorative elements to the leaves and human figures, every detail showcases the intricate, curvilinear vocabulary of Nuapatna Ikkat at its finest.

Paired with a plain silk blouse in the same deep base colour, this is a saree that carries a strong design heritage while feeling distinctly elegant and feminine.

About Khandua Sarees – Woven Stories from Odisha

Khandua sarees hold a place of pride in Odisha’s handloom tradition, admired for their artistry and sanctity. Traditionally offered to Lord Jagannath in Puri, they embody devotion, culture, and centuries-old weaving mastery.

Woven through the Bandha Kala (Ikkat tie & dye) technique, motifs are dyed into yarns before weaving, ensuring clarity and precision. Khandua sarees are available in silk and cotton. While silk Khanduas are known for ceremonial elegance, the cotton versions bring breathable comfort with timeless artistry, making them suitable for both everyday and special occasions.

To own a Khandua saree is to embrace a living tradition—woven devotion, heritage storytelling, and unmatched craftsmanship carried forward since the 12th century.
