About Khandua Sarees – Woven Stories from Odisha
Khandua sarees are among the most prized weaves of Odisha, not only for their intricate craftsmanship but also for their spiritual depth. Traditionally offered to Lord Jagannath of Puri, each saree represents centuries of cultural devotion and artistry.
The weaving is done through the Bandha Kala (Ikkat tie & dye) method, where threads are tied and dyed with motifs before being woven. These motifs—ranging from leaves and flowers to temple-inspired patterns—carry stories from nature, mythology, and heritage.
While Khandua silks (Khandua Pata) are known for their ceremonial grace, the cotton variants embody breathable comfort and everyday elegance, perfectly suited to the Indian lifestyle.
Every Khandua saree is more than a garment—it is a living tradition, a handwoven piece of Odisha’s soul, carrying stories that date back to the 12th century.
