This exquisite Nabakothi Khandua Silk Saree showcases traditional handwoven craftsmanship. Each of the nine boxes, known as "kotharis," is adorned with a symbolic motif representing various elements of our culture, such as the kumbha/kalash (pot), flower, butterfly, and elephant. Other motifs, including the peacock, deer, lion, bird, lotus, and shankh (conch), also make an appearance in a carefully calculated arrangement to enhance the aesthetic appeal. The chosen number of nine has significant cultural significance, symbolizing Navagraha, Naba Kalebara, the nine incarnations, Navaratri, Navami, and the nine months of gestation. The motifs are arranged in a column, covering the entire body of the saree (except the pallu), and are created using the traditional tie and dye technique unique to Odisha ikkat.
